Life goes on
Sometimes i ride my friends horses like the one above. Sometime i ride mine, like the one below. Hes Suzies now, but he will always be my Nedley.
This old fellow is The Saint. He came to me as a rescue who was hopeless and his foster mom could not bear to put him down... could i take him so someone could do it? Sure. I decided to feed him the special gruel i make for all old horses, and he ate it all up. later that day i made him another bucket of mash. He ate that too. So i turned him loose to roll and pay and he seemed much improved. We called off the euthanasia and i decided to keep him as long as he seemed happy to live. I stole an extra year for him and then had to tearfully say bid him farewell. i loved that horse so much it was crazy. Though he was old and broken he was fun and loved to socialize and would even step up to the mounting block on his own to give short rides while my friends came out to play. He was a brave and kind, loved children and his bowl of gruel, and adored socializing with the lady horses. He was a true old soul and fun until the bitter end. The Lady who runs the rescue i volunteered for thought he must have been close to forty years old when he made his exit with his usual calm dignity and good humor.
I am richer for having known him and poorer for his loss.
This is Tini. She was showing me that she wanted to ride too. She has been gone over four years and i miss her still
